Overview The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center MLSC has various programs that provide loans, grants, and tax incentives to industrial organizations and nonprofit entities to encourage the expansion and vitality of the life science sector in Massachusetts.

STEM Equipment and Supplies Grant Program The STEM Equipment and Supplies Grant Program enables the purchase of equipment and supplies for high schools and middle schools in the Commonwealth in order to train students in life sciences technology and research, as well as addresses a funding gap in capital dollars for public and not-for-profit workforce training and educational institutions.

Life Sciences Tax Incentive Program In order to expand life sciences—related employment opportunities, promote health-related innovations and stimulate research and development, manufacturing and commercialization in the life sciences, the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center [offers] tax incentives to companies engaged in life sciences research and development, commercialization and manufacturing in Massachusetts.

Neuroscience Consortium The Consortium, the formation of which was announced in June of at the Bio International Convention, will fund pre-clinical neuroscience research at Massachusetts academic and research institutions. Universal Partnerships Program The UP program will fund grants to Massachusetts companies to support milestone-based [research and development] collaborations with any international organization.

Any employed intern shall be treated as a W-2 employee of the company not a contractor or subcontractor for compensation purposes. However, interns must be hired for a temporary internship experience and not hired as permanent employees interns can be hired full time upon completion of the MLSC-sponsored internship.

For research institutions, there is no specific program year. Candidates looking for an internship will submit an online application, which includes their resume and identifies relevant skills.

There is no application deadline since internship placements are rolling. Approved employers will review applications and contact candidates directly if they are interested in hiring them for an internship. The Data Science Internship Program is designed to respond to the rapidly increasing demand for data science talent by expanding the pool of prospective employees who have practical experience and enabling individuals with data science skills to explore life sciences careers in Massachusetts.
