Sold individually, the glove is reversible for use on either hand. It's reassuring to know that some elements of medieval technology remain effective today. To determine your glove size, measure in inches the circumference of your hand not including the thumb and order the closest size, e.

Blade is aggressive but I wouldnt call the band saw a powerhouse. Put a dowel in the glove and just entered it into the saw blade and then jerked it back when it made contact. It ripped about a 3" slide in the chain mail, yes right thru it. But the wood was unmarked and the blade stayed on the saw and I guess not the worse for wear.

I didnt check it for sharpness after the test. The saw didnt suck the glove in or anything just sliced it right open. Surprised me actually. What it might have proven is that even with chain mail you could get whacked, but perhaps not quite as bad.

Maybe I shouldnt use band saws any longer, too old and too clumsy I guess, not to mention over medicated. Hope this helps. Tags: None. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw well, bandsaw is so useful I'll go back to it just once my bitten thumb will be "fixed".

Be careful with your tests too! Comment Post Cancel. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw rick, you might be over-thinking this. With your recent accident, I understand the hypersensitivity. I dont believe gloves are the answer. Another carver suggested painting a bigger red circle around the blade area. Keeping your fingers out of the way of the moving blade is key here.

I hate to see you second guessing yourself. I hope you will climb back on that horse and ride her again; just a little more carefully this time. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw well im starting to run into what I would call congition problems.

My wife says im in the first stage of alzheimers. She doesnt like me driving anymore or carving. I notice stuff like leaving the stove on, and when Im driving, I look and dont see any cars and a second later someone is honking furiously at me as I pulled out in front of them.

Its beginning to get scary. I havent lit the end of my nose yet instead of my cigarette so that still works. Dont know I have cut a lot of wood with a band saw and never got close to getting zapped until recently. Tom Ellis. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw Rick, Keep the blade guard down close to the wood, and use nice flat pieces of wood, and the saw seems pretty safe. Don't try any wierd angle cuts to save carving time either, let those new knives do the work for you.

Be safe, Tom. If I took the time to fix all my mistakes, I wouldn,t have time to make new ones. Brian T. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw rick: thank you very much for doing the experiment. I would have bet a nickle that the dowel would have been cut, as well. Suppose that had been a hotdog instead of a dowel. Can you make an educated guess as to what the outcome might have been? That thing threw a 2x4 back at me, crotch height.

Been hit in the forehead by a tungsten-carbide saw blade tooth, too. Interesting shape to the mark. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw The bandsaw doesn't bother me, but I break out in a cold sweat when I turn on the table saw. Re: chain mail glove vs band saw Hi Rick, "over medicated" and power tools, driving would have me concerned.

Do you have anyone that can come over and cut out what you need? I've been around power tools since birth.
